Mary Joanna & The Southern Electrikk - Manchester The Castle Hotel - 7th June 2014

We introduced Mary Joanna & The Southern Electrikk a few weeks ago.  Our good friend and photographic genius Elspeth Mary Moore caught their recent gig at The Castle Hotel in Manchester.

An impatient crowd huddled together in the dark close room of The Castle. Friends, and soon to become so, stood side by side facing the stage. In front of us the band tuning up and Mary clutching a can of beer.

Then they struck up. From the get go the sound was fantastic, visuals of psychedelic swirls playing over them, matching the sounds perfectly.

Songs that stood out were Kabin Fever, which touched on isolation and desperation, was haunting and beautifully delivered by Mary’s voice. From one track to the next, Mary captured the room’s attention, Golden Dawn talks of mysticisms and the occult.

The final song “Wasted” can be seen on youtube to give a flavour of what they’re about.
Looking forward to seeing the next show.

They played - The Sundowner, I Dream In Colour, Golden Dawn, Angels And Devils, Kabin Fever, You Knew You Knew, Stay and Wasted.

Elspeth's photos of the show can be found here and the rest of her catalogue here.
