EVEN THE STARS ALBUMS OF 2019 - 8 to 5

Today we reveal more of our favourite albums of 2019 - from eight to five.

Average Sex / Tim Burgess / Feral Family / Leon The Pig Farmer - Manchester Castle Hotel - 12th August 2019

Average Sex brought their tour to a packed Castle Hotel on Monday night for a sweaty show of new material and tracks from their two EPs and they were joined on two songs by special guest Tim Burgess, whose Ogenesis label has put those records out. They were supported by Feral Family and two spoken word sets from Leon The Pig Farmer.

Average Sex - Melodie EP

Melodie is the second EP from Average Sex. Signed to Tim Burgess' OGenesis label, they've been making their name across the festival summer with a series of high-energy often tongue-in-cheek performances that have endeared them to many. The follow-up to their debut Ice Cream EP is full of the same slightly bonkers but brilliant lyrics sung with a French accent by Laetitia and short sharp tunes that jump from one place to the next with abandon.

TRACK OF THE DAY : Average Sex - Ne M'Oublie Pas

Ne M'Oublie Pas is the first track to be taken from Average Sex's forthcoming second EP Melodie which is out in August via Tim Burgess' Ogenesis Recordings label.

Average Sex - Manchester Jimmy's - 18th May 2018

As part of The Charlatans North By Northwich Festival, the Friday night show was broadcast live to a number of venues across the country, many of which had a live band as support. At Jimmy's in Manchester that band was Average Sex, one of the most exciting new bands around. They ignored the small numbers that had turned up early to deliver a set that was every bit as thrilling as if the room was full and bouncing.

Liverpool Sound City (Berries / Average Sex / Hey Charlie / Peaness / Dirty Laces / White Room / Dish Pit / Violet Youth / The Seamonsters) - Various Venues - 6th May 2018

Day two of Liverpool Sound City saw us avoid the big venues and headline acts and concentrate on some of the smaller stages and bands that have been on our must-see list for a while or those we'd missed when they were last in Manchester. Across another scorching hot day in Liverpool, we caught The Seamonsters, Violet Youth, Dishpit, White Room, Dirty Laces, Peaness, Hey Charlie, Average Sex and Berries.

TRACK OF THE DAY : Average Sex - Ugly Strangers

Ugly Strangers is the first track on Average Sex's debut EP Ice Cream which came out on Tim Burgess's O Genesis label late last year. They've now released a video for the track using home movie footage of their time on the road with The Charlatans last year.

Tips For 2018 - The Top Four

Welcome to the final day of our tips of 2018 where we present the four acts that we have the highest hopes for next year to make an impact on the music scene, either in Manchester or further afield. Our final four are Kula Bay, Janileigh Cohen, Average Sex and MarthaGunn.

Average Sex - Ice Cream EP

Average Sex's debut EP Ice Cream is a collection of four songs produced with a refreshing approach to their art. Like their live shows, it's remarkably playful in its approach, particularly lyrically. It doesn't strive for musical perfection, because quite frankly that would be boring. It's the musical equipment of letting someone dig you in the ribs and then tickle your sides, but you don't care because instead of irritating you, you secretly love it and don't want it to stop.

The Charlatans / Brix & The Extricated / Average Sex - Manchester Apollo - 2nd December 2017

The Charlatans returned to their spiritual home of Manchester on Saturday night for a celebratory show at the Apollo. Whilst pleasing the crowd with a selection of their biggest hits, they also sought to challenge a beer-fuelled audience at times with lesser known tracks from their recent album Different Days. Support came from the evergreen and ever-energetic Brix & The Extricated and the devil-may-care attitude of brilliant newcomers Average Sex.
