Emily Capell's debut album has been in a long-time making, but Combat Frock is more than worth the wait as the north-west Londoner delivers an album that captures on record the joyful essence of her live shows and her unique razor sharp wit, social commentary and love of a famous football bad boy.

Emily Capell opened up her run of shows on Thursday night, previewing tracks from her forthcoming debut album as well as revisiting some from her previous EPs and introducing a very special guest to accompany her band of "Kardashians."  She charmed a Manchester crowd with her North London humour and songs that found you nodding your head and tapping your feet to before they even reached the chorus.

The Slow Readers Club / Emily Capell / Urban Theory / LIINES - Head For The Hills Festival - 14th September 2018

It wouldn't be September without the annual pilgrimage to Ramsbottom for Head For The Hills Festival, a mix of established national bands and those on the cusp from both the North West and further beyond. Friday night was a homecoming of sorts for late stand-in headliners The Slow Readers Club, having headlined the second stage here in 2016, whilst local bands Urban Theory and LIINES showcased the festival's policy of supporting emerging talent and Emily Capell seduced a main stage crowd with her West London wit and charm.
