As January draws to an eventual end, Lucoo filled up the final Saturday with their all-dayer at Jimmy's with a line-up of many of the bands that have graced this stage in the past couple of years. We caught up with Maddy Storm, The Goa Express, Louie Louie, Gardenback, Hello Operator and Dantevilles with a packed hot and sweaty room full of fellow music fans.

CTRL is a new live music club night launched on Thursday claiming to showcase the city's best live bands and touting The Charlatans' Tim Burgess as guest DJ. In Ist Ist and Louie Louie they at least deliver on the band side of the deal.

Pop Up Festival - Sale King's Ransom - 14th August 2016 (Fliiis / Control Of The Going / Cultures / I Set The Sea On Fire / Happy Daggers / Glass Peaks / Altar Flowers / Mayflower / Louie Louie)







Sunday saw the second day of Scruff Of The Neck's Pop Up Festival located at the King's Ransom in Sale. We spent the afternoon and early evening watching nine great bands from both Manchester and further afield that have performed for the label this year on the outdoor stage by the picturesque setting of the canal.

Urban festivals are becoming all the rage these days, but When In Manchester is one with a difference. It has a true DIY ethos to it that's different to the increasingly corporate ones where major labels see them as a showcase and a testing ground for their potential next big things. When In Manchester was conceived by four young women on a night out and then became reality through lots of ground level hard work and planning to create something that's both intimate, diverse in its line-up and a true testament to being able to do what you want in music if you put your hearts and minds into it.

Courteeners / Liam Frost / Louie Louie - Liverpool O2 Academy - 3rd June 2015



Ahead of their huge sold-out Heaton Park homecoming gig on Friday, we caught Courteeners in an intimate warm-up show at Liverpool's O2 Academy mixing together a set of songs from across their four albums to date as they strive to pick the perfect setlist for the biggest gig of their career. Support came from the people's poet Liam Frost and his band and thrilling Manchester-based newcomers Louie Louie.
