TRACK OF THE DAY : The Maitlands - Flotsam and Jetsam
Flotsam and Jetsam is the new single from the surprisingly prolific The Maitlands, another track to add to their impressive 2019 output. Clocking it at less than three minutes, the song features the charismatic vocals of their lead singer Carl Ingram over a track full of jagged guitars that refuse to stand still for more than a few seconds.

The Maitlands - Manchester Academy 3 - 10th August 2019
The Maitlands played their biggest headline Manchester show to date on Saturday night at Academy 3. Always entertaining, more musically composed than ever and with their unique front man Carl Ingram at the helm, their forty-minute set contained crowd incursions, sardonic wit and a growing collection of outsider tunes that stand them out from the pack.

The Maitlands - Interview
A newly reinvigorated The Maitlands have just launched their second EP Bury The Hatchet with a new line-up and a seemingly more focused approach to their art. We caught up with front man Carl Ingram for a chat about changes in the band and the tracks that make up the EP and the inspiration for his lyrics.

The Maitlands - Bury The Hatchet EP
With a new line-up and a focus not previously associated with Carl Ingram’s band of merry men, The Maitlands return with a five-track EP Bury The Hatchet that feels like a significant game changer for them.

TRACK OF THE DAY : The Maitlands - Daunting From Derker
The Maitlands' latest single Daunting From Derker is something of a departure in style from the band that changes its line up more often than there's delays on the Rochdale branch of Manchester's Metrolink which coincidentally is the setting for this new track.

TRACK OF THE DAY : The Maitlands - Kisses For The Masses
The Maitlands return with a new single Kisses For The Masses and more line-up changes. Often described as being influenced by The Fall, it seems that only applies to movements in members of the band as Kisses For The Masses recalls the heady romanticism of pre-success Pulp, but couched in the here and now in North Manchester. It's their finest moment to date.

The Maitlands - Manchester Aatma - 2nd December 2016
The Maitlands might never worry the scorers in the pop charts, but we suspect they care about that even less than we do. Outsiders on the vibrant live scene in Manchester, they probably also care little about that fact too, happy to play their own merry way around the venues of the city. We caught up with them in the cosy surroundings of Aatma as they headlined the first Atomic Catfight club night.

The Maitlands - Manchester Gullivers - 19th August 2016
The Maitlands are another band waving the flag for the old guard in Manchester at the moment, proof that you don't have to be eighteen, photogenic and have great hair to make great music. The room's impressively busy for an unsigned night even though it's just past eight o'clock to see them run through seven strangely chaotic and brilliant songs before front man Carl hugs everyone and heads off to the bar.

Control Of The Going / The Jungfraus / The Maitlands - Ashton-Under-Lyne Witchwood - 12th June 2016
Sunday night in Ashton-Under-Lyne isn't where you'd expect to see three great bands on the same bill, but tonight's show demonstrated that there's still life in the suburbs away from the city centre venues that dominate the North West music scene. Tameside's very own Control Of The Going head up a bill with The Jungfraus and The Maitlands.
