Mike D 5D / Tony Bontana - Glasgow SWG3 - 26th October 2026

Mike D 5D played another legendary gig and this time GhostBirdUK ventured a few hours north through the dark skies arriving in Glasgow at the distinctive independent venue SGW3.

Had a bit of a rookie start to the night by queuing up for the wrong gig, but soon entered the cool, artsy SWG3 industrial event space, with its brine-coloured concrete pillars and dry ice filtering through from the stage. The merch stall was well stocked, with the seller waiting in anticipation of sales, while he attempted to finish his takeaway dinner before it got cold.

The crowd was a great mix of ages, and we waited patiently listening to some cool tracks by the sound desk #skills. In time, the cavernous space filled up. We watched the blue hazy stage with the half-disco balls, the little blow-up alien on a keyboard and the lone mic stand. As time went by, people searched and jostled for space, moving into the gaps where water couldn’t reach, all aiming for that prime spot.

Suddenly, support act Tony Bontana appeared. He was stressed and delayed, but still he slayed! He asked for the sound to get deeper and louder as his set went on. The bass was so deep my t-shirt was vibrating against my body. With our teeth rattling in our gums, we watched and appreciated him headbanging his dreads and rapping for the final ten minutes of his set. He still had his big smile through all that stress of getting to the venue and the crowd loved him.

Mike D 5D arrived on stage at last, and they were worth every minute of the wait. They delivered another superb set starting with Hello Brooklyn a Beasties classic with all the attitude and energy we had waited for.  Then it was straight into What We Got, which got a huge roar of approval!

They played loads of tracks from the recently released new album Thank You, including the ace Crypto and I Don’t Care, Secrets Pt 1 & 2, and one of my favourites, Make It Stop. These, interspersed with some glorious old Beastie Boys tracks, like the epic Body Movin’ definitely satisfied the hardcore BB fans!

Resplendent in their screen-printed apparel and high-energy antics, the whole gig was like watching a workout!  Loads of stage action, high pogo jumps and total chaos, with guitar changes interspersed with jumping onto keyboards mid-song, and tracks fading and blending with samples thrown in. Honestly, all I can say is What A Ride!

The tour is now continuing in Europe and with a final date in Brazil.
