Adult DVD - Newcastle The Grove - 24th October 2026

Back at The Grove again and this time for Adult DVD, the dance-punk band from Leeds. What a super venue this is - it’s a perfect size and has that charged vibe that you want before a gig. This gem of a place is a great independent venue and I hope will be part of the 6Music festival in the spring.

The atmosphere is buzzing and there are lots of people milling around, chatting, having a few shandies and picking up a bite to eat from the hatch. There are so many cool-looking people here – looks like it’s THE place to be tonight!

I’ll tell you something for nothing, if you mess around at one of Adult DVDs gigs you miss out on a slot at the front! Like me there was no space past 3 ft into the place, and I was stuck on the stairs. On a positive note, with me being of small stature this did gain me 16cms in height securing me a good view of the stage albeit from right at the back. And yet, still there were people with boundless confidence pushing past carrying 3 pints and a vodka in plastic glasses! Ah man, may the Northern Gods go with you into the throng!

The walk-on music started – Pigbag – what a bloody brilliant track to get everyone riled up! And off we go straight into Do As I Please, then Coffin Dodger, which has brilliant egotistical lyrics and bags of energy and had everyone jumping in the mosh. The stage is packed with gear and synths, drums and guitars. They are almost knocking into each other, but they are tight and play one banger after another.

The lights were fab and the smoke set up the atmosphere. People were de-de-de-ing along to lead singer Harry Hanson during Dogs in the Sun. The mosh was heaving, people on shoulders, everyone with arms extended pointing and jumping around right up to the back of the room, blimey.

When Cowboy on Aisle Three came on, bassist George was rocking out big style. Then Jesus Christ Supercar, released in September of this year, was given an airing. Featuring fantastic beats, synths and rhythms, it's new yet everyone already knows it, a song destined to become a firm fan favourite! Then there’s the World’s Best Boss song, which Harry introduces as ‘the one you most possibly want to say to your boss at work’ - love these lyrics and yeah, every office I’ve worked in mate!

Real Tree Lee, now this is one we can’t get enough of! Just the ‘dogs’ and clearly everyone is in agreement, the room is bouncing. Rolling Face just reminds me of the acieeeed-house days, the strobes and lights were excellent, lots of distortion and pure noise. People were sweating from every pore ha.

Then back to one of the older tracks from 2024 Do Something, with the pulsating beat and Jonny’s drums driving it along. It’s impossible not to dance. Again, the lyrics are fun – that you’ll try anything then you can’t stick at anything. What a tune!

The final track Bill Murray is excellent. It’s about a mad Reddit theory suggesting Bill Murray and Tom Hanks are the same person as they are never seen together. Adult DVD have some fab lyrics, they are clever and humorous, they are playful but poignant and relatable.

It was great to see a good mix of ages here and I think maybe a few family and friends of the band too. If my assumption is correct, they looked super proud and so they should be. This 6-piece band are a really nice group of very talented guys, having fun and making some epic tracks. I first saw them supporting Fat Dog at the Boiler Shop back in Feb 2025 and remember thinking then that they were something special and building up to be massive. It's brilliant to see them getting bigger and better with every gig!

After the show, Glen Campbell’s Wichita Lineman was played – what a class way to end the gig. Keep it rolling down the line guys!
