Real Life is the third single to be taken from Lanterns On The Lake's
forthcoming album Versions Of Us released by Bella Union on June 2. Their most
upbeat offering to date, with a twist at the end, the song focuses on throwing
aside your inhibitions and self-doubts and living life to its full potential.
Lanterns On The Lake's songwriter and singer Hazel Wilde explains the meaning
behind Real Life - "This song is about living your imaginary fully realized
life. It’s about the promise that you make to yourself and others of something
better rather than living in the moment and accepting who and where you are.
It’s essentially one for the daydreamers."
Versions Of Us features previous singles The Likes Of Us and String Theory as
well as six other tracks. It features Radiohead's Philip Selway on drums
after the band's long-term drummer Oli Ketteringham left the band during the
sessions for their follow-up to the Mercury Prize nominated Spook The Herd. It
was produced by the band's guitarist Paul Gregory in the bedroom of his North
Shields home.
