TRACK OF THE DAY : Lanterns On The Lake - String Theory

Lanterns On The Lake have today released String Theory, the second track to be taken from their forthcoming album Versions Of Us. Accompanied by a lyric video, the song muses over the existence of alternative versions of yourself in another world where fate dealt you a better hand and you made different life choices.

Lanterns On The Lake's singer and songwriter Hazel Wilde commented on the meaning behind the song, which the band have said is one of those they're most excited about on the new record - "String Theory is a song about reflecting on what might have been and might, in some way, still be. It finds beauty and solace in the multiverse theory and the idea that out there somewhere, vibrating on their own frequency, exists another fully realized version of yourself where your story turned out differently."

The track, along with previous single The Likes Of Us are taken from Versions Of Us that is released on June 2nd, their first album since 2020's Mercury-nominated Spook The Herd. The album features Radiohead's Philip Selway on drums and the two tracks revealed so far suggest that the band have continued to hit their rich vein of songwriting that culminated in their fourth album receiving such critical acclaim when they were close to calling it a day after its predecessor Beings.

Lanterns On The Lake tour at London Rough Trade East (June 2), Oxford Truck Record Store (3), Newcastle Reflex (4), Newcastle RPM (8), Birmingham Hare And Hounds (November 7), Nottingham Rescue Rooms (8), Cambridge Storey's Field Centre (16), Leeds Howard Assembly Room (17), Sheffield Crookes Social Club (22), Glasgow St Luke's (23), Brighton Concorde 2 (29), London Islington Assembly Hall (30), Manchester Band On The Wall (December 5), Bristol Fleece (6) and Gateshead Sage (15).
