TRACK OF THE DAY : Lean Logic - Mother Machine

Mother Machine is the latest single from the newly-formed Lean Logic released by the Ogenesis label. Julia Grantham waxes lyrical about the beauty of this intriguing track.

Mother Machine opens simply and melodically with just a few bars of a piano, but this soon becomes intertwined with synth, almost as a metaphor for how the world we knew and the uncertainty of the future we face is inextricably bound in our current reality.

The vocals echo throughout the song in a beautifully haunting yet comforting way. Any fans of Keel Her will be familiar with the subtle beauty of Rose’s voice, and her singing is delicate yet foreboding on this track. Alluding to all the uncertainty we face in the world right now, Mother Machine invites us to become lost in the wonderful swirling phrasing of the instrumentation which is both rich in harmony, melody and unrest all at the same time. The use of traditional instruments, juxtaposed with futuristic-sounding synth hints at the all the uncertainty with which we all face and yet packages it all up beautifully in a hazy dream-like song. It is a thing of melodic wonder, and one which has been a firm favourite on my playlist since it dropped less than two weeks ago. Jump in!
