Introducing - My Lyrical Mind

Hailing from Macclesfield, My Lyrical Mind is 23 year old singer / songwriter Matt Wood. He opened the acoustic tent at the recent Blackthorn Festival and he has just posted some new demos on Soundcloud. After giving our Scottish correspondent a follow on twitter, Stuart Ralston decided to follow back and have a listen.

Although he is yet to release a physical single, My Lyrical Mind has an incredibly accomplished sound judging by his numerous Soundcloud uploads, including new demo tracks Don't Fade Away, I'll See You Again and Open Your Heart.

Don't Fade Away is a powerful ballad, almost reminiscent of a young Richard Ashcroft (when his band were know as Verve), lush strings, harmonies and a chilled out rhythm section.

I'll See You Again is dominated by a simple yet haunting piano line and more heartfelt vocals.

The even more recent Open Your Heart is only weeks old and continues in the same vein. You can picture songs like this going down a storm with a late night festival crowd.

My Lyrical Mind cites M83, Kodaline and Radiohead amongst his influences and these artists certainly come across in the rich sounds he creates. It is a good idea to get your demos out there on Soundcloud to be heard. I hope he continues to do so, and to forge his own identity as he develops.

He has been gigging around Manchester's Northern Quarter for a year or so now. It will be interesting to see how he recreates his sound on stage and is certainly an artist to watch out for and we're looking forward to hearing his debut EP, hopefully later this year.

My Lyrical Mind can be found on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud.
