It seems like an age ago that we were wandering round Manchester and were drawn to a beautiful voice busking near the Royal Exchange. We picked up a CD and discovered Janileigh Cohen's debut EP As A Child. She's returning now with a new single Sister.
The song demonstrates not just Janileigh's expressive voice which accentuates the emotion and the meaning in the words she's singing, but also that she's capable of using instruments, in this case piano, to create music that talks from the heart to the heart. Sister is, according to Janileigh, "a very personal song written for my sister, so she knows that I'm always there for her even if I'm far away from home", quite fitting as she's developed her style by busking not just around Manchester and her hometown of Bolton, but further afield across Europe.
It's been a long wait for her new material, other than a couple of live videos on You Tube, some of which she aired at an intimate Royal Exchange show a year or so ago, but if Sister is any indication, it's been worth the wait and should hopefully catapult her to a much wider audience that her obvious talent deserves.
Janileigh Cohen's website can be found here and she is on Facebook and Twitter.
