City Reign are back with their second single of the year, Disappear, and are headlining the Deaf Institute this Saturday (15th) in support of it. We found out a little bit more about them.
It's been no overnight success for City Reign. Main songwriters Chris Bull and Michael Grice met at a Ryan Adams gig in Manchester in 2006 and played in a number of bands before putting together City Reign in 2008, the name a play on Adam's City Rain, City Streets song. After an EP release, Daybreak in 2009 and a single Making Plans in 2010, they lost two members and then added Duncan Bolton and Ryan Ashton to form the current line-up in 2011.
They recorded their debut album Another Step at the hallowed surroundings of Salford's Sacred Trinity Church in 2012, which was released in February 2013, which garnered critical acclaim from the likes of Clash Magazine.
Since then they released a new single When You Got It All earlier this year and sold out a show at Gullivers in Manchester. Expectations are higher for Disappear and a Saturday night headline slot at the Deaf Institute is a big step up, but if the rest of their new material is as strong as Disappear, they should make that step effortlessly. It's darker and heavier than their previous material
