Polite is the second single from Dublin singer-songwriter Bri, the follow-up to last year's stunning debut Low Supply. Once again it showcases a unique voice that grabs you immediately that delivers lyrics that are both personal but also extremely relatable.
Bri explains the meaning behind the song and gives some insight into how it was recorded - "Polite tells a tale of feeling trapped in a never-ending conversation, playfully documenting the internal struggle between the reactive and impulsive parts of oneself and the part that is patient and polite. Darragh Nolan of Asta Kalapa studios is incredible and I had the best time bringing this song to life in the studio with him with the help of my very talented electric guitarist, Aidan Mulloy."
The song is played out on a night out where Bri is trying to be a good listener to someone with the weight of the world on their shoulders - "it's like you started talking yesterday, just trying to find a nice way to escape" balanced off against letting her hair down and relax "I just want to dance, want to feel the music." The structure of the song allows Bri to showcase many different styles to her voice as the song progresses which excites us for the rest of the new music she promises to deliver in 2020.
Bri is on Facebook. She plays Dublin Soundhouse on February 8.
