Even The Stars Tips For 2015 - Day Four


Welcome to the day four of Even The Stars' tips for 2015. They're not necessarily artists that we think will make a big breakthrough (except our Top Three which we'll reveal on New Year's Eve), but bands and solo artists that haven't released their debut album we're looking forward to hearing and see more of next year.

Today's tips are Chadelics, Trampolene, Puppet Rebellion, Sophia Ben Yousef, Hartheim, Queen Kwong and Spectres.

Inspiral Carpets / Gramotones - Sheffield Leadmill - 6th December 2014


This week saw Inspiral Carpets kick off a three week UK tour in support of their recent self-titled album, their first for twenty years.  We caught them in a packed Sheffield Leadmill mixing tracks from that album as well as some old classics and favourites.

Whisky Sessions Unsigned - Manchester Whiskey Jar - 29th October 2014 (Beck Lanehart, Larkins, Troubadour, The Tapestry, The Jordan Allen Band, Death To The Strange, The Gramotones)


The Whisky Sessions are a new festival being held at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on November 21-22.  Tonight’s Unsigned competition is effectively a battle of the bands competition to win a place opening the second day of the festival ahead of Gomez, Turin Brakes and Badly Drawn Boy.

It's rare for a band to sneak under the Manchester hipster radar and get to the point where there's sold-out signs on a venue the size of Band On The Wall, but tonight The Gramotones demonstrate that this is merely a stepping stone to much bigger things.

Gramotones Release Debut EP - Interview

Gramotones have been building quite a buzz around Manchester for a couple of years now, fuelled by infrequent gigs and a love of harmonies that stands them out from the crowd of wannabes wanting to imitate their modfather heroes. The ironic result of this was an invitation from Paul Weller, who described Daltry Street as one of his favourite tracks of 2013, to record their debut EP at his Blackbarn Studios.

There's a growing buzz about The Gramotones, built upon a growing reputation as a live band with a fantastic knack for harmonies and great straight-forward intelligent tunes and lyrics, backed by a couple of self-released EPs.  They've caught the attention of Tim Burgess who has invited them to support on his autumn tour and Liam Gallagher, whose Pretty Green chain asked them to do this in-store and one in London a couple of days earlier.  We went along to see what the fuss was all about.
