Elbow / The Slow Readers Club / Peter Alexander Jobson - Manchester Castlefield Bowl - 2nd July 2025


Elbow opened up this year's Castlefield Bowl Sounds Of The City series of shows on Wednesday night with a sold out gig accompanied by fellow local heroes The Slow Readers Club and Peter Alexander Jobson. A few surprises, most of their biggest hits and an atmosphere of joy and togetherness delighted eight thousand fans on a warm Manchester summer night.

The Slow Readers Club - Leeds Headrow House - 16th March 2025

As part of the campaign for the release this week of their seventh album Out Of A Dream, The Slow Readers Club headed to Headrow House in Leeds for two shows in conjunction with Crash Records playing the album in full plus four tracks from their substantial back catalogue repertoire.

The Slow Readers Club - Interview

The self-released album is one of their strongest bodies of work to date as yet as evidenced at their preview shows in Bury and Manchester a couple of weeks ago. The Slow Readers Club - Out Of A Dream


When The Slow Readers Club debuted songs from their seventh long player at the tail end of last year, we were instantly excited for the release of Out Of A Dream. We noted that “the band are on fire and frontman Aaron Starkie has an energy, an enthusiasm, and a passion that suggests he’s on a mission.” That mission has been delivered.

The Slow Readers Club - Manchester Gorilla - 2nd March 2025

With the imminent launch of their seventh album Out Of A Dream, The Slow Readers Club have taken to the campaign trail this weekend with a couple of intimate preview shows, performing the album plus selected back catalogue highlights in full. On Sunday night they played a hometown show at Gorilla revealing the ten new songs from the record to a loyal and dedicated fanbase.

The Slow Readers Club - Glasgow Stereo - 6th December 2024

The Slow Readers Club returned to Glasgow for the first time since their triumphant Barrowland Ballroom gig (opening for Shed Seven) last autumn for a more intimate affair. Stuart Ralston went back home for the evening and was blown away.

The single is taken from their forthcoming album Out Of A Dream and sees the band on fine form, pushing their anthemic sound for which they're known to new areas without losing their core appeal.

Music Feeds Live - 27th February 2024


Music Feeds Live has been announced today to take place at Manchester Apollo on 27th February 2024. Featuring the likes of James, The Slow Readers Club, Lanterns On The Lake and Chicane accompanied by the Joe Duddell Orchestra, the concert aims to raise money to fight food poverty. It will be hosted by Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Chris Hawkins.

The Slow Readers Club completed their Manchester mash-up with the biggest show of the three, a sold out show at the imposing New Century. A career spanning greatest hits set was accompanied by a brand new song in front of an adoring hometown crowd who sang, danced and lost themselves in music for an hour and a half.

The Slow Readers Club played an extra-special show on Friday night at Canvas as the second part of their Manchester Mash-Up trio of shows. Accompanied by a wonderful seven-piece ensemble arranged by Joe Duddell, they performed a sixteen-song set of fan favourites and deep cuts that swerved many of their best-known songs yet held an audience captivated by the raw stripped down beauty of the music and Aaron Starkie's gorgeous voice. Support came from Test Card Girl.

The Slow Readers Club / May Payne - Manchester Yes Basement - 24th November 2023


The Slow Readers Club opened up their three-show Manchester Mash Up with the most intimate hometown gig they've played in nearly a decade. Eighty or so lucky fans got the chance to watch them up and close and personal and pick the setlist for a show in the basement of Yes. With songs selected from all the way back to their self-titled debut through to this year's Knowledge Freedom Power and including a few real rare live gems, they delighted an ecstatic crowd. Support came from the very excellent emerging Manchester artist May Payne who performed a half hour solo set on keys and guitar.

Head For The Hills Festival (The Slow Readers Club / Cut Capers / Gentlemen Of Few / Katherine Priddy / Izzie Walsh) - Bury Burrs Park - 1st September 2023


Head For The Hills has been resurrected by its creators The Met in Bury at a new location since the pandemic. Moving away from its traditional home of Ramsbottom Cricket Club, the picturesque surroundings of Burrs Country Park are its new home, the two stages situated either side of the railway bridge on the East Lancashire Steam Railway. Impeccably organised as ever, the festival was a wonderful day out, with a diverse line-up across its two stages with lots of family activity for kids during the day and supporting local businesses with the food and drink offerings. Friday's main stage saw The Slow Readers Club headline with sets from Cut Capers, Gentlemen Of Few, Katherine Priddy and Izzie Walsh.

Morrissey / The Slow Readers Club / The Lottery Winners - Leeds Millennium Square - 12th July 2023

Morrissey's UK tour arrived in Leeds on Wednesday night for the biggest show of the tour at Millennium Square supported by The Slow Readers Club and The Lottery Winners. Stuart Ralston travelled to Leeds for the evening and was completely blown away.

The Slow Readers Club concluded a trio of weekend appearances with a sold out show at the Holmfirth Picturedrome on Sunday night supported by fellow Mancunians Ist Ist. A career spanning set delighted a rapt audience for ninety minutes touching all bases from their self-titled debut to this year's Knowledge Freedom Power.

The Slow Readers Club finished off their UK tour in support of their sixth album Knowledge Freedom Power with a sold-out hometown show at Manchester's Albert Hall, their first big Manchester show for three years. Playing a career-spanning set they reminded the city why they're one of the most important bands to emerge from here in recent times as an adoring audience hung on every word and note for an hour and a half.

The Slow Readers Club opened up their UK tour in support of their Top 30 album Knowledge Freedom Power with a packed out show at Stylus in Leeds on Saturday night. Mixing tracks from the new record with favourites from across their extensive back catalogue they delighted a crowd made up of a mix of Readers veterans and new fans. Support came from Newcastle's charismatic Andrew Cushin, serving his apprenticeship before he headlines venues of this size and bigger in the not too distant future.

An album full of the sort of uplifting anthems that we've come to know and love from one of Manchester's finest bands, it looks set to follow its predecessors into the charts. We caught up with Aaron and Kurt for a chat about the making of the record and the inspirations behind it.
