TRACK OF THE DAY : The Slow Readers Club - Lunatic (Live At O2 Apollo Manchester)

In December 2018, The Slow Readers Club played their biggest headline show to date at Manchester Apollo. Sold-out three months in advance, the night was a celebration of a band that had for so long been one of the underdogs on the city's music scene finally getting their deserved rewards. Ahead of the October 25th release of a live CD / LP / DVD of the whole night, they've revealed a live video of Lunatic, the opening song of the night and the lead single from their top-twenty third album Build A Tower.

Speaking about the release, front man Aaron Starkie said "As a Manchester band it was always a dream to play the Apollo, a target we aimed for as we worked our way up through the city’s venues. To look out on all those people felt incredible, like a hard won celebration of our journey together.  We're really pleased to be able to share that evening with people now. Not only the three and a half thousand that lent their voices to the recording, but all the new people that have yet to discover our music. We hope everyone enjoys this document of our biggest gig so far."

For a band that we documented playing to small crowds around the Northern Quarter, their slow but irresistible rise has been the perfect proof that word of mouth does still work in these days of paid playlists, cosy industry relationships that leave doors open for those connected and locked for those that aren't and the dearth of genuine champions of independent music on a national level. Watching them move from selling out The Night And Day, Academy 3, Gorilla, Salford St Phillips, The Ritz, Manchester Cathedral and finally The Albert Hall before their big night that is documented here is a source of huge pride as the army of "READERS" as their now ubiquitous fan chant goes grew and grew.

The album is released on October 25 on a 2CD/DVD or 2LP/DVD package plus digital downloads and the band will be holding an intimate launch event on November 7 at an as-yet-unannounced Manchester venue with tickets available to ballot winners who order the album via the official website.
