TRACK OF THE DAY : The Short Causeway - Tripping Down The Stairs

The Short Causeway are the latest band to emerge from the vibrant Calder Valley scene with their debut single Tripping Down The Stairs, an urgent unsettling track that refuses to stand still for a second and which is accompanied by a video that heightens the sense of unease of the song.

Almost the house band at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, they've supported a raft of bands in the iconic venue including LIINES in March this year when we described them as "they leave us with the impression that they're going to be the next band coming out of the Calder Valley into the bigger cities either side and making their mark in the not too distant future." That future has arrived with their debut single.

The three-piece - Claudie Nicholson (guitar and lead vocals), Rufus Stott-Leach (drums) and Hayden Davey (bass) - are childhood friends and formed after watching a show at the Trades Club where they seem to be present in the audience whenever we make the trip from Manchester.

Claudie describes Tripping Down The Stairs - "We have always been keen to try bring something about that sounds a bit different. Being a three piece has been massively important to us and our identity, not just as a mirror of our friendship, but in the how it has forced us to think about the way we write, both in terms of needing to make more noise in some instances and needing to make use of an absence of noise at other times."

The Short Causeway are on Facebook and Twitter.
