Our Girl are a Brighton-based three piece about to release their debut single Sleeper (backed with an equally excellent b-side Level) on December 18th. It's an excellent way to introduce themselves with a big calling card guitar intro, beautiful vocal harmonies and an extended and slightly disconcerting outro.
Our Girl are Soph Nathan, Josh Tyler and Lauren Wilson and prior to this single, they had an eponymous track online, but we knew little else about them. Sleeper feels like a song split into sections, stopping at intervals and restarting in a different direction but without losing track of their undeniable sense of purpose and their ability to craft something that will both get them radio airplay but also appear to what's left of the indie hardcore. It's perfectly timed with the media focus on the return of bands that were classed as shoegaze as we can see influences although Our Girl clearly have a strong sense of their own independence and identity that shines through in the songs we've heard to date.
They're playing two shows to celebrate the release of the single - London Dalston Birthdays on December 8th and Brighton Green Door Store on the 9th
Our Girl are on Facebook and Twitter.
