Wya is a track taken from Iris Kymm's new EP Message. The Seattle-based singer-songwriter describes herself as a "Soul / Pop / Jazz / Contemporary R&B artist" and Wya and the other tracks from the EP showcase all these elements to her voice.
Wya (Where You At?) starts with understated electronica over which Iris sings about being unable "to see through the darkness I created" as she looks for someone to come along and rescue her declaring "I just want to be with somebody who loves me, somebody who cares, somebody who's there for me" and repeating this through the song. Her voice is layered with backing vocals that provide a haunting contrast and adds to the intoxicating combination of Iris's voice and the swirling sounds that sit beneath it.
Iris explains the meaning behind the song - "Wya describes how it’s so easy to surround ourselves with people but a lot of us feel so lonely and insecure. How it’s hard to find true soulmate or friends."
