TRACK OF THE DAY : The Slow Readers Club - Modernise

The Slow Readers Club have released Modernise, the opening track and second single to be taken from their forthcoming studio album Knowledge Freedom Power which is released on February 24th.

The Slow Readers Club's front man Aaron Starkie explains the meaning behind the lyrics to the single - "Modernise is about the constant need to learn and adapt to changing, it’s a bit of a techno fear song."  It references the need in a digital world to continue to keep on top of everything that's changing so quickly, but also the pressures this places on the individual and their mental health as the world becomes a competition - "Get a job, find a girl, hurry up don’t be late. Pressure’s on to be strong, must be first out the gate."

The song has the same anthemic qualities that we've come to expect from The Slow Readers Club, but like its predecessor Knowledge Freedom Power, the album's title track, there's a more pronounced use of synths that shows the progression in the band's sound as well as the influence of working with a new producer Joe Cross whose previous work includes Courteeners and Hurts.

The tour in support of the album calls at Bury Met (February 5), Barrow In Furness Library (March 2), Leeds University Stylus (4), Glasgow SWG3 (6), Aberdeen Lemon Tree (7), Nottingham Rescue Rooms (9), Birmingham O2 Academy 2 (10), Bristol Thekla (11), Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms (13), London Lafayette (14), Manchester Albert Hall (17), Berlin Lido (23), Hamburg Übel & Gefährlich (24), Antwerp Trix Club (25), Paris Supersonic (30), Rotterdam Rotown (31), Amsterdam Paradiso Tolhuistuin (April 1), Belfast Limelight 2 (14), Dublin Academy (15) and Porto M.Ou.Co (29).
